Something plenty of people think of getting are blinds - but it is so important to choose the right ones for your home as different blinds suit each room. Here is a simple guide to ensuring you get the right blinds for your home.
Think about what you want to get from them
It all depends on where you want to place the blinds. Are they needed for a room that is incredibly sunny - just to bring a little shade? Do you need to block out some light, perhaps for a children’s bedroom or nursery? Once you’ve worked out what you want them for, you can consider buying them.
What type of blinds do you want?
Whether you are wanting roller blinds, Venetian blinds, Roman blinds or another type, you want to make sure you are getting the right type for you.
Roller blinds are simple and compact and usually available in a number of colours or designs. These are also often perfect as blackout blinds for your child’s room. Generally, they are very affordable.
Venetian blinds are a good option if you are looking for the perfect blinds to help control the amount of light and level of privacy to a room. These also now come in a variety of different materials and often wood or metal. You will often find these in the kitchen as they cope well with steam and humidity and are easy to wipe down.
Roman blinds are made from a fabric that is designed to pleat when raised. They can be made from a variety of fabrics, from silk and linen to cotton and synthetics and available in a huge variety of patterns and colours. I personally feel they can give a luxurious feel to a room.
It is important to see what blinds work best where - Venetian may work best in the kitchen but others may work better in other rooms of the house. It is all about ensuring that the blinds work exactly how you want them to, and give the look and feel you want.
Something else to consider is if you have children in the house - cordless is definitely the best option for their safety.
What is your budget?
You need to make sure that your budget will cover the cost of the blinds. Blinds can be supremely affordable but it does depend on the material used and the size of the areas to be covered. Some people choose to only add blinds to one room and others choose to add them to every room in the house. When compared to curtains blinds can be more affordable in my experience, for example, roller blinds can be picked up for less than £20 for a small window.
Consider the cleaning
It is amazing just how dusty blinds can get from day to day so consider how much effort you will be wanting to put into cleaning them on a regular basis. Some can be cleaned at home easily with a clean damp cloth but need attending to regularly. Others hide dust better but require a more experienced hand to clean. Check from the company you buy your blinds from, how they recommend cleaning them.
We’ve got a few blinds in our home but we are definitely considering getting more - they often seem so much more practical than curtains.
