What To Wear To Royal Ascot

This year, Royal Ascot takes place from 20th June – 24th June. One of the most exciting events of the racing calendar, it's the fashion though that turns heads and gets us all talking. From black chic dresses to gorgeous maxi dresses, cool fascinators and hats that are works of art, it's important to get your look right, after all you never know if you are going to be papped.

Planning your outfit in advance is highly recommended as Royal Ascot is known for its strict dress code.  Here, Daniel Footwear explains what you should and shouldn’t be wearing this year, depending on which ticket you buy.

Royal Enclosure dress code

If you’re lucky enough to be a member of the Royal Enclosure, you’ll have the strictest dress code to follow. This is what you should and shouldn't be wearing.

Do wear formal daywear, knee-length or longer dresses. Dresses and tops should have straps that are 1 inch wide or larger. Full trouser suits are a chic alternative but must be of a matching material and colour. Hats are expected to be worn, fascinators are not allowed although a headpiece that has a solid base of 10cm or more in diameter is also accepted.

Don't wear strapless or off the shoulder tops or dressed with halterneck or spaghetti strap styles. It is also frowned on to show your midriff and wear shorts.

Queen Ann Enclosure dress code

If you have booked your spot at the Queen Ann Enclosure, these are some of the things to take into consideration.

Do wear formal wear, knee-length or longer dresses or skirts. A hat or fascinator is expected to be worn at all times. Trousers can be worn if they are full length, no shorts.

Don't wear strapless or sheer dresses and tops. Also bearing your midriff is frowned upon. A hat, headpiece or fascinator must be worn at all times.

Windsor Enclosure

The Windsor Enclosure does not have a strict dress code, however, a certain degree of formality is expected.

If you are choosing a dress try to avoid anything too form-fitting, as well as neon colours, cut-out panels and sheer detailing. Create an elegant look by keeping the flesh you flash to a minimum.

A chic midi or maxi dress is perfect, but nothing too short. As Royal Ascot takes place in the summer, floral prints and pastel colours work well and don't forget to co-ordinate your shoes or accessories.
Pick out a colour on your dress and carry it through your headwear, shoes and accessories to tie your look together.

In terms of footwear, heels are a must — but think twice about sky-scraping stilettos. You’ll be spending lots of the day standing up and wandering around, so a pair of mid-height heels or wedges may be preferred.

Of course, a fascinator or hat is expected but is not a requirement in the Windsor Enclosure, so why not try a fun hat or headpiece?

Tell me do you like the race day fashion? Have you ever been to the races?

  4. I've never been to any type of races, although Ascot is only a short drive from my house. The ladies always look so glamorous when I see them dressed up on their way for Ladies Day x

  5. I love seeing articles on race day fashions. From the outrageous to the amazing. I just find it all really interesting. Have to say, the odd one does raise both my eyebrows, but in general, I think it is a fab way for women, and men alike to simply enjoy their fashion sense.
