Not Just for Men – Gadgets are for Everyone

It’s often said that men and gadgets share a special bond, one built on mutual respect and understanding. Well, perhaps that might be a slight exaggeration, but there’s certainly more to boys’ toys than meets the eye. Far from being an extravagant way to blow your savings and waste entire weekends, could boys’ toys actually turn out to be useful in everyday life?

Whether it’s the latest model Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4, a new remote-control helicopter, a Storm Trooper light to warm up the man cave, or an all-purpose power drill for those Ikea flat-pack moments – there’s a gadget out there for every man, every moment and every mood. Gadgets are more than just games; they can make life easier and even help take care of us – while also being a lot of fun!

Not just for men

The rapid pace of technological innovation in all areas of life and cultural phenomena like girl power means that technology and gadgets are no longer the exclusive domain of men. Move over Luke Skywalker, Jyn Erso is about to break in and hack the Death Star without so much as a driving licence let alone a lightsabre! Anyone and everyone can own the latest tech and not just stuff that gets used once and then relegated to the back of the wardrobe.

Here are a few ideas that can actually improve your everyday life: -

Garmin’s Varia Vision

This cool Varia Vision gadget from Garmin is a commuter cyclist’s dream come true. The augmented reality display mounts to your sunglasses to send you visual alerts for how well you’re doing along the way (perfect for beating your personal best to work) and even flags up traffic and directions for longer rides.

Unlike your phone, the battery on this is estimated to last up to eight hours – so you’re never left in the middle of nowhere without knowing your precise position in the middle of nowhere! As well as making you look like the Terminator on the Tour de France, the Varia Vision is also designed to be safer and more convenient than traditional handlebar-mounted trackers. It’s also packed with other useful safety features, like a rear-view radar to tell you when cars are approaching from behind.

A gadget to save for a rainy day

Following the trend for 2016 of tech being more practical and useful to our everyday lives, we’re seeing more and more gadgets that are combining the latest technology with ordinary objects. Take the oombrella, the (quite literally) unforgettable umbrella that lets you know when it’s going to rain and reminds you not to leave it behind.

As well as sending you an alert every time you leave it on the Tube, it also sends you local weather alerts throughout the day and shares live weather data with other users. Could this be the perfect gadget for both men and women and those of all ages? Sure, you might have got by for years without owning an oombrella, but this is still an awesome gift for fashion-conscious (and slightly forgetful) family members.

Have some fun!

As well as being useful in our daily lives, sometimes the best gadgets are just about having fun. Most of us grew up with remote control cars, outdoor toys, or some form of early gadgetry, so we know that feeling of play! These days, modern gadgets are a long way from being ‘childish’, like the new stunt scooters, yet that same feeling of switching off isn’t just about being young at heart – it could also be the key to helping with our wellbeing.

Playing about with gadgets is a great way to de-stress and enjoy free time, helping your body release feel-good hormones and offering long-term health benefits. For instance, for rainy days or lazy days, kicking back with a retro video game can take you back to golden days down the arcade – get ready Player One!

Or if you’re an outdoors type, a Wi-Fi-enabled camera drone with live aerial video feed provides a great excuse to get some fresh air. Some quadcopters come with a mid-air flip function so you can practise some acrobatic manoeuvres while you’re filming the neighbourhood.

Gadgets are for life, not just Christmas

It’s easy to overlook the huge impact modern technology and gadgets have had on our daily lives and careers, allowing us to get more done, be more productive, and achieve things previously impossible.

And it’s not just at work. We’ve become so reliant on gadgets as a staple in our everyday lives that we often forget they’re even there. Consider all the technology we use on a daily basis, whether it’s for entertainment, convenience or communication.

While one mid-air-flip in the park with your new drone won’t transform your life, gadgets are great fun, and having fun is an important part of a healthy balanced life for men and women and boys and girls everywhere.
