Fast Cars, Classic Cars

My husband and I love cars. It all started with my Ford Fiesta all those years ago. It was a basic shed of a car but I still loved it. It represented freedom, choice and independence. I saved up for two years to buy that car and had tears when I found out it was rusting away and the salesman had duped me.

Years and many cars later, I was lucky enough to win a fast car experience day for my husband in a competition. He grabbed the chance to drive an Audi R8, Formula Renault and Lamborghini. The cars were stunning and he loved driving on a proper race track. I didn't have a go driving the cars myself but I enjoyed watching him race them. The Lamborghini design caught my eye, how fantastic was the fact that the whole door opens upwards. It also went faster than I thought any car could go too.

So when we got married, we decided the vehicle that would take us to the ceremony would have to be special. We chose a classic car as it felt romantic and I couldn't imagine getting out of a Porsche in my wedding dress!

A stunning classic car on our wedding day

My father in law has a very similar car, a Rolls Royce. He takes it out on the weekend but as the weather has been poor recently I couldn't get a photo of it as it's been in his garage for the Winter.

He makes sure his car is insured as basic car insurance won't insure classic cars. Classic car insurance is very important and due to the age of the car, he makes sure he has 24-hour breakdown cover too. It's not easy getting parts for a classic car so this makes perfect sense. He loves his car and it certainly is a crowd pleaser when he drives it along the prom in the summer in my little seaside town.

One day my husband hopes to have a luxury car like an Aston Martin or a Ferrari 458. I would be happy with a white Rolls Royce. I know we don't ask for much, do we?

Have you ever ridden in a classic car? What cars do you love? Why don't you have a go at the classic car quiz below?

  1. My dad loves Jaguars and has owned a few. I have driven one of them, but not any others. I love Morris Minors and VW Beetles. I also love Aston Martins! I could go on, I am actually a big car fan, loving muscle cars too! I think you're right it is certainly important to have them protected!

Great post and I love your wedding picture!

  3. You looked so beautiful on your wedding day, you overshadow the car!! I have been in an Aston Martin DB5 it was so uncomfortable but the classic car to be in and seen in. Racing down country lanes for an afternoon was a highlight. I love old Triumph Spitfires too, for a high end car, I like the Maserati!

WOW what a fab experience, I would love that. My ex boyfriend years ago bought me a Porsche Carrera 911 and I loved it but threw it back at him and told him he couldn't buy me haha - wish I hadn't of done now :(
