Silvero® Stacking Bracelet Review And Giveaway Ends 23/08

I love supporting UK businesses and recently Silvero contacted me to see about working together. Silvero are a brand that sells quality silver bracelets that are stackable and can be worn on their own or together.

I was given a choice of items from their online store and found it hard to pick. There are some very pretty bracelets on there. I finally decided on a silver stacking set of bracelets with a sparking four-leaf clover.

The bracelets came packaged in a cute pink embossed box with branded ribbon and inside a black Silvero pouch. A pink silver cleaning cloth included in the parcel was a nice touch too.

The bracelets were displayed wrapped around on a pink cushion. They looked super sparkly and shiny. I noticed they also sent me an extra silver bracelet with rainbow beads, which was a lovely touch.

The bracelets they sent me are made from sterling silver and are stretchy to put on. The standard size is 17cm but they can make the bracelets they sent me to any size if you email them beforehand.

The detailing on the bracelets are exquisite.  Each bracelet is made of shiny and textured silver round beads. Two of the bracelets also have beautiful light blue-green aquamarine beads as well and one had tiny black stones too.   The rainbow bracelet has rainbow beads that have a subtle gorgeous violet, yellow and pink look in the light. Cubic Zirconia adds sparkle to the four-leaf clover.

I thought the bracelets were easy to wear and extremely pretty. They can be worn on their own for a simpler look, or stacked with even more bracelets to make an impact. Check out the summer collection here.

Silvero - the company

Silvero is run from a base in the Lake District by a couple who love jewellery. The gemstones and silver are sourced from the USA, France, Thailand and the UK and nothing is bought from China.  Half of the bracelets come from designers and jewellers from around the world, where they choose delicate pieces which they love and bring them to the UK market.  The other half are their own collections (Aquamarine collection, Summer collection, Gold and Silver collection, Special gift collection) and sizing of all these bracelets from these collections can be fully customised. A perfect gift for yourself or a loved one.

Delivery is only £2 to the UK and free on orders over £50.

Competition

Today on my blog, the lovely people at Silvero are giving three of my readers the opportunity to win one of their sterling silver and 14K heart bracelets. A highly polished dazzling silver heart is placed between two diamond-cut beads, which add to the heart an extra shine with every movement. Some of the beads are 14k gold filled too which add an extra luxurious touch.

The bracelet is exceptionally pretty and will delight anyone wearing it. Priced at £49 it will make a lovely gift too.

The Benefits Of Sterling Silver Jewellery

Silver has long been thought of as luxurious. There is a reason people use the term " silver spoon" when talking about a person who grew up wealthy!

Sterling silver is comprised of 92.5% silver, while 7.5% comes from other alloys, such as copper. It's a great way to enjoy the luxury of silver when wearing jewellery.

There are people who assume sterling silver is just a more affordable way to get the look of white gold. Others assume it's just for earrings. However, you can find sterling silver used to make all kinds of jewellery. From classic pieces to pieces that capitalise on the latest trends, there are countless options available. Many designers are choosing to use this metal because it's resilient, malleable, and it looks great.

It doesn't matter if you're looking for more formal jewellery or something that you can wear daily. You should be able to find pieces made from sterling silver that are absolutely perfect for you at elf925.

These are just a few of the reasons you need some sterling silver in your jewellery collection.

1. It's Resilient

If you take great care of sterling silver pieces, they can last you for your entire life. It's not unusual for a piece to look brand new even after someone has worn it for decades.

Of course, real 925 sterling silver can be more costly than costume jewellery. Still, the expense is worthwhile when you consider the overall quality of the jewellery. These are pieces that will last a lifetime. In fact, you may find ta the more beautiful pieces are handed down from one generation to the next.

If you want to ensure that you're buying the highest quality jewellery available, you should make a point of buying pieces from jewellers with an excellent reputation. You should also search for these parts on your pieces;

  • 925 or .925
  • Sterling
  • 925 Sterling Silver Stamp
  • Sterling Silver

You might not be ready to buy jewellery you can wear for the rest of your life. However, sterling silver is still a great option since..

2. It Allows You To Follow The Latest Trends

Women who are passionate about fashion news know that jewellery trends can change in an instant. Just trying to follow the trends can be a full-time job.

Thankfully, sterling silver has been popular for centuries, which means it'll always be on-trend. While styles may shift over time, you'll always be able to find sterling silver pieces.

As an example, it's become more common to see uncut minerals and gemstones in the accessories that people wear during the spring and the summer. In many cases, you can find these stones set in sterling silver.

If you always have some silver pieces in your jewellery collection, you can ensure that you're always in style.

3. You'll Have Countless Choices

Since silver tends to be soft, it's highly malleable. This allows designers to offer a wide range of designs.

Since there are tons of options, you'll always be able to find sterling silver pieces that are in line with your tastes. It doesn't matter if you're shopping for a ring, a necklace, or a bracelet. The options available to you will be endless. It doesn't matter if you wear sterling silver exclusively. Your options will never be limited. Jewellery designers are always finding ways to innovate.

If you're looking to add new pieces to your collection, you'll find fantastic 925 sterling options.

4. It's Easy To Put Together A Collection

If you're just starting a jewellery collection, sterling silver is a terrific choice. Since it's more affordable than many other materials, and since there are plenty of options, you'll be able to build a collection before you know it.

Sterling silver pieces will fit in seamlessly with the other pieces in your collection. It complements the majority of metals.

If you want high-end jewellery pieces that will make a big impression, without the high price tag of gold, sterling silver jewellery is what you should be looking at. Designers know that they can get really creative with this material.

What really makes sterling silver special is that it's not just beloved by consumers. Jewellery designers love it too. There are always customers eager to purchase new sterling silver styles, and designers are always excited to work with this material.

When you buy sterling silver pieces, everyone wins.

5. It's Highly Versatile

You can wear sterling silver on any occasion.

Are you attending a formal event? Why not wear sterling silver? Going out for brunch with your friends? Silver is the perfect choice. Heading to the office? You know what you can wear. In fact, you may be able to wear your favourite pieces on different types of occasions.

Silver can make any look feel more elegant and it pairs nicely with most metals. If your jewellery collection contains a lot of platinum or pieces that are made from white gold, sterling silver pieces will fit right in. Your new jewellery will match the pieces and outfits that you love.

You can wear sterling silver alongside other metals and create a cohesive look. Since the colours are fairly similar, people won't be able to tell that you're mixing metals. This is a great way to create distinctive and stylish looks.

Hersey & Son - Stylish Silver Jewellery And Silverware And Win £50 To Spend - Ends 07/04

Hersey & Son is a quality family run jewellers with a proud heritage. Being one of the only remaining traditional silversmiths in the UK left, this father and son business has been making jewellery and silverware for people to treasure since 1955.

The founder of the company, Michael Hersey, set up his business in 1971 after starting as an apprentice many years earlier in a Soho workshop. Ten years later his son Stewart joined him in the business after completing his training as a silversmith at the Sir John Cass School Of Art. Today they are joined by silversmiths, engravers and silver spinners all experts in the art of silver making, jewellery craftsmanship and detailed engraving.

As well as a large selection of silverware from silver pens and paperweights, to candlesticks and photo frames, their silver jewellery selection is hard to beat. I adore a gorgeous Russian style bangle on their website as well as the silver open cuffs that can be engraved. That's the beauty of many of the quality silver items, is the ability to have it engraved by Hersey & Sons in their London workshop.

For this blog post, Hersey & Sons sent me a gifted item to review. Dazzled with the choice from their website, I choose a pair of hammered silver drop earrings and they arrived quickly to my home. UK delivery is free which is great to know! They are also members of the National Association Of Goldsmiths and abide by their code of conduct, based on honesty, integrity and professionalism.

The earrings were packaged well, in tissue paper to protect them, in a box lined with soft velour. The design of the box is classic, with silver writing on a black box. A card was enclosed with information on how to care for your silver, as well as a silver cloth for polishing and caring for your jewellery.

The earrings inside were simply gorgeous!

The earrings are made of a hammered sterling silver that catches the light as you move. With a drop of approximately 28 mm they are perfect if you have short or long hair and will show up well if you have the latter. They are comfortable to wear and fitted with silver wires.

The silver care guide was really useful and it was a nice touch that it was included. Silver over time can oxidise in the air, giving a dark, sometimes black appearance, so it's important to store your items in a cool dry environment and polish them with a silver cloth to keep its looks. It's wonderful then, that a silver polish cloth is included with items from Hersey & Son.

The silver hammered oval drop earrings from Hersey & Son are priced at £40 which I feel is very reasonable for sterling silver earrings of this quality. They would make a great birthday or Mother's Day gift as well as a fabulous treat as a self-purchase for you.

Today on the blog I am giving you a chance to win any item up to £50 from the Hersey & Son website. They have some great silver lockets, silver stud earrings, children's christening bangles and men's silver cufflinks for example.

How To Store And Look After Antique Silverware

If you’re lucky enough to own antique silverware, perhaps you have inherited some from a family member or you love collecting antiques, then you will want to ensure that you look after its beauty and protect its value.

Antique silver can add a touch of luxury and elegance to any home but it can be tricky to look after and maintain unless it is properly stored. Here is a guide to how to store and look after antique silverware.

What harms antique silverware?

Silver is an interesting metal and reacts with the air, food and water, which means it can tarnish easily. Silver sulphide is the chemical term for tarnish, which is the yellowish colouring (light tarnishing) or black film (heavy tarnishing) that you can see on silver that hasn’t been protected or polished. Tarnish can't be washed off but with a little care, it can be prevented and with the right products removed and protected.

Storage options for your antique silverware

Silver tarnishes much quicker when damp, and needs an adequate level of ventilation so avoid putting these items in a damp cellar or stuffy attic. To preserve your antique silverware it’s often best to use an airtight container and place it somewhere in your home that is safe from oxygen and external pollutants to avoid tarnishing. For example, opt for a cool, protected place, such as a sideboard or drawer in your spare room — away from windows.

Pure silver is also soft so you can also get scratches and dents if stored with other items so always keep apart from other household items.

According to English Heritage’s Guidelines for the Storage and Display of Archaeological Metalwork, you should look for a silverware container that is made from materials which don’t give off sulphur pollutants, such as:-
  • Acid-free tissue paper and sealed polythene bags: make sure you squeeze the air out before sealing and add silica gel to absorb any excess moisture.
  • Airtight chests or boxes: able to keep humid air and oxygen away to protect silver collections from tarnishing. However, this can take up a lot of space and, if you accidentally choose an airtight container made from a harmful material, you will trap the problem inside with your silverware.
  • Anti-tarnish bags: available in a range of sizes and ideal for smaller silverware items. But avoid plastic bags — these will trap moisture and quicken the tarnishing process.
  • Cloth rolls: a compact way to safely store silver items individually, especially cutlery. However, this method leaves silver exposed to the air and you must make sure that the fabric isn’t harmful to silver.

If you are storing your silverware, silica gels, chalk and anti-tarnish strips can help absorb harmful gases that react with silver.

Displaying your antique silverware

Of course, you should feel free to have your silverware on show, if that is what you’d prefer, after all, part of the enjoyment of antique silverware is its detail. If you wish to show off your silverware, consider a cabinet to display the items and still protect them.

You can also buy microcrystalline wax polish to use on the silverware items that you wish to display to help protect them from humidity, dust and pollutants.

Hopefully, this guide has provided solid advice on safely stori
ng your silver to protect it from damage and tarnishing. Remember to decide whether you want to store or show your antique silverware, and then take steps from there to ensure your precious items maintain their beauty and value.

Valentines Jewellery With Dower And Hall And Win Pretty Earrings - Ends 14/02

When I owned my own jewellers with my husband we used to pride ourselves on selling jewellery that was made with the utmost quality. Every year we used to visit International Jewellery London, a big trade show looking for beautiful jewellery that we would be proud to sell. This is where I came into contact with Dower and Hall.

Dower and Hall are a British company established in 1990 by husband and wife Dan Dower and Diane Hall.  All their jewellery is made in their London workshop by skilled jewellers in sterling silver, gold vermeil, 18ct gold and platinum.

The Wild Rose range

Their designs are pretty and feminine, and notable collections include the 'Feather' collection with lifelike detailing, the 'Nomad' range of organic design necklaces, earrings and bracelets and the 'Wild Rose' range that has a romantic feel.

They also make a range of jewellery that can be personalised, called the Cherish range. Cherish lockets are designed to bring individuality to your life and make a perfect gift for birthdays, anniversaries as well as Valentines Day.

The Sealed With A Kiss Range

The Sealed With A Kiss range has pretty pendants set with crystal glass, inside floating treasures and loose gemstones, shimmer and shine in the light as they move with the wearer. These pendants are a lovely gift and the perfect keepsake, to be adored and treasured.
Love Heart Entwined Bracelet

Another range I think is so pretty is the Love Heart range. This Love Heart entwined bracelet above is made of sterling silver, the hearts have a hammered finish and the clasp has the distinctive Dower and Hall detailed catch. That is what I love about Dower and Hall, the little details that make the jewellery extra special.  Also All the jewellery above would make fantastic Valentine's day presents. I personally would be overjoyed to receive the Love Heart entwined bracelet, hint hint Mr W!

At the trade show in London, we bought a selection of Dower and Hall jewellery and sold it in our shop in South Wales. I loved it so much I bought the Nomad nugget bracelet which I still wear today.

Portuguese Filigree Review And Competition Ends 14/12

I really like unusual jewellery and the Portuguese Filigree Jewellery Store is a site that has caught my attention recently.

A Portuguese lady started the company with her husband and sister, with the idea of bringing the work of artisan Portuguese jewellery makers to the world.

The strong tradition of filigree jewellery in Portugal predates Roman times. Strings of metal and balls of silver combine together to make exquisitely detailed jewellery with a rich heritage, especially worn at weddings, festivals and special occasions. A distinctive symbol of the regions of Gondomar, Viana do Castelo and Póvoa do Lanhoso, this beautiful jewellery is part of the rich Portuguese culture.

More Portuguese filigree jewellery from the Portuguese Filigree Jewellery Store

As you can see designs are intricate, detailed, and complex. Superb craftsmanship, handmade by artisans in Portugal is what makes the Portuguese Filigree Jewellery Store extra special. If you buy from the store you are supporting local Portuguese people. Jewellery is designed in silver, gold plated or rhodium plated to bring a selection of different looks to their customers.

Of all the jewellery on the site, the Meticulosa pendant is my favourite. A big statement piece I would wear it with a little black dress on a long chain. The free-flowing silver filigree has a large heart design, inbuilt with swirls and waves of silver. The flower centrepiece adds that finishing touch. Simply gorgeous.

If you are looking for Christmas gifts of handmade silver jewellery that is unique and different, then the Portuguese Filigree Jewellery Store ship worldwide too. Packaged in a premium white gift box with the black and gold logo, any self-respecting jewellery lover would be delighted to receive a gift from this company this Christmas.

How To Support World Rhino Day

Today is World Rhino Day. World Rhino Day was first announced by WWF-South Africa in 2010. Everyone knows about the fact that elephants are killed every day for their tusks. According to National Geographic, over 100,000 elephants have been killed in the last three years, but rhinos are killed too for their tusks, which some cultures believe have medicinal properties.

Of the two types of rhino in Africa, the black rhino and white rhino -  there are only 20,000 remaining of the white rhino and only a handful of the even rarer northern white rhino. The black rhino is even more endangered being on the critically endangered list with a population of only approximately 5,000. As you can see these magnificent creatures are under major threat.

The very real risks of both elephants and rhinos face in Africa will be around for as long as there is demand for their products. Rhino horn is used in some traditional Asian medicines for a variety of conditions from a high fever to blood disorders and even as a hangover cure whilst in Vietnam where some people believe rhino horn cures cancer. It is important to note that there is no scientific basis for these claims.

Organisations that focus on saving these beautiful creatures should, in my opinion, be applauded. Tusk is one such charity that funds conservation and community development in Africa. Tusk has set up important surveillance projects to monitor the black rhino population, and protect them from poachers.

So what can we do in the UK on a simple level? We can donate to Tusk through their website and also through initiatives where companies donate their profits of a product to this worthwhile charity.

One such company is Asimi Silver. Asimi Silver feel so strongly about the cause that they have pledged 100% of the profits from both their silver elephant necklace and their silver rhino necklace to Tusk.

These beautiful pendants are full of character and very unique like the animals themselves and come complete with sterling silver chains, beautifully presented in a lovely Asimi presentation box, and tied with a bow. Inside is a silver care card as well as a note confirming your support of these animals through the charity Tusk.

These gifts are perfect for animal lovers everywhere, jewellery lovers and lovers of the diverse African continent. The hand-finished pendants are different and special and make a perfect Christmas gift.

Asimi Silver also have other animal pendants for sale, including a very cute hummingbird, hippo, giraffe and whale pendant.

Let me know what you think of these pendants. Did you know about rhinos being endangered? Have you been to Africa and seen these beautiful creatures in the wild?

How To Buy The Best Necklace Length For Your Body Type

To find the perfect length necklace, take a look at your neck, face and body type to get the right fit.

Image Copyright chatiryworld Flickr CC

Going through your jewellery collection, do you own a necklace that you seldom wear? Sure, you might not like the necklace anymore, or it could’ve been part of a long-forgotten fad. But one of the main reasons women stop wearing a necklace is because it isn’t flattering. That is, it doesn’t fit well.

Here are top tips to shopping for the perfect silver necklaces UK.

Stick Your Neck Out

A really quick way to find the right length silver necklace is to measure the length of a necklace you tend to wear often. No doubt if you wear the piece often, you find it to be the most flattering. Or perhaps the best length that works well with your wardrobe.

When it comes to figuring out the best length of necklace, think about your body – the shape of your face, the size of your bust and your overall height. Start at your neck, though. Every type of necklace will touch the neck so what’s going on in the neck area counts big time.

Silver necklaces need to work with the length and width of your neck. Does your neck have a couple of wrinkles? If you have long neck, you can wear just about any necklace. But do try a necklace on before buying it.

Lengths and Widths

Long, thin necks suite chokers beautifully.  But a choker worn on a short neck will make the neck look rather stubby. If you have a short neck, choose a 20 to 24 inches long necklace to help elongate your neck.

If you have a wrinkled neck, stay away from tight and short silver necklaces that can draw attention to the wrinkles. Opt for long necklaces that have pendants and draw the eye away from the neck.

When choosing silver necklaces UK, consider your upper torso. Something less than 22 inches long should sit at or above the bust. If you’d like a longer necklace, make sure it works with your torso’s length, particularly if you are fuller figured or short.

Height should be a consideration when picking a silver necklace. Taller women and those of average height can wear almost any length but shorter women can be overwhelmed by chunky designs and longer pieces.

Face Shape

Face shape should also be a factor when picking a silver necklace. Common face descriptions include round, oval, heart-shaped and square.

Oval faces can adorn just about any length of necklace. But round faces look better with longer silver necklaces with a charm or pendant. These types of neck pieces create a slimming “V” shape that draws attention away from the face. Round faces should avoid round chokers that will make the face look chubbier.

Your Clothes

Finally, consider your wardrobe when buying a necklace. For example, let’s say you wear high necks and turtle necks often. Beads and long ropes will look good but if you have a fuller figure and are shorter, these might not work. The necklace length you choose should add to your overall look and work to enhance your appearance.

There is a great deal to consider when choosing a silver necklace. From face, body type and neck to the clothing in your wardrobe – each factor will contribute to the length of the piece you decide on.

There’s a lot of planning that comes into it, but you might just find something you absolutely love and have to have. It’s up to you to decide if that funky silver necklace will be the perfect length for you and might be the ideal finish to your outfit.

I love my charm bracelet that I have personalised with charms of places I have travelled, initials of loved ones and symbols of events in my life. I have never had an engraved piece of jewellery however, so when I was contacted by the company Merci Maman I was delighted to have the opportunity to review one of their silver necklaces.

Beatrice, and her husband, Arnaud

My necklace was delivered in a cute little orange box tied with a beautiful white satin bow. As I opened the package with anticipation, I let out a squeal as I was truly delighted when I saw the necklace. The silver necklace was engraved with my husband and son's name and was really lovely. The silver chain is fine but set off the substantial discs well. The lettering added a touch of class and was very elegant in design.
