Of course, saying that you’re going to prioritise health is easier said than done. Cut Out Bad Habits


When switching to a healthier lifestyle, you don’t have to throw yourself in the deep end, instead, you can greatly benefit from simply cutting out a few bad habits. Here are a few to consider.

Smoking

If you smoke, chances are that you know this is extremely bad for you. It’s consistently highlighted by health authorities and even the packaging on cigarettes and tobacco show the awful effects smoking can have on your body. From heart disease to respiratory problems, smoking can seriously shorten your life. 
On top of this, it’s expensive. Smoking is, however, a surprisingly common habit.  Of course, quitting is easier said than done. Nicotine is an extremely addictive substance, so people will return to it time and time again. But quitting is possible. Drinking Excessively or Too Frequently


We don’t tend to survey the consequences of drinking that often. At the end of the day, drinking is legal and it can be a highly social activity that many of us engage with. When you drink in moderation and infrequently, drinking can be fine and pose little threat to your wellbeing. Alcohol, however, can be addictive and drinking excessively can lead to a variety of health complaints and conditions, such as serious liver damage and diabetes. Keep Up to Date With Your Health Appointments




It’s recommended that we all attend a number of health appointments to keep an eye on various aspects of our health and wellbeing. Sure, you may only need to visit your general practitioner when you’re exhibiting symptoms or have a notable health complaint, but other check-ups are just as important whether you feel like you’re in good health or not. Here are a couple to schedule in.

A Dental Check Up

You should see your dentist once every six months. This is important. Often, you may be experiencing trouble with your teeth that can be diagnosed early and treated before the problem worsens and you begin experiencing unpleasant symptoms, such as dental pain, abscesses or worse. This appointment will also give you the opportunity to have a scale and polish, which can see you leave with a sparkling smile.

An Optometrist Appointment


The average adult should go for an eye test once every two years. This really isn’t a huge commitment, so you need to make sure that you keep up to date with things and don’t skip this one. An optometrist appointment will see a professional survey the overall health of your eyes from front to back. They’ll be able to diagnose any developing conditions, such as glaucoma, cataracts, or even seemingly unrelated conditions like diabetes. They will also be able to carry out an eye test to ensure that your vision is okay. If you struggle to see anything, they can write up the right prescription that will help to correct your vision. Maintain a Good Skincare Routine




A surprising number of people don’t have a thorough skincare routine, however, a good skincare routine can ensure that you’re looking after your skin, protecting your skin from the sun and help prevent the signs of ageing. 

Your skin type will be completely unique, but most people fall into one of the following four categories: normal, dry, oily or combination. Normal skin tends to be balanced. Dry skin doesn’t produce enough sebum, so it can dry out and flake, feel rough and look dull. Oily skin produces too much sebum and has a greasy appearance, and large, visible pores. Combination skin combines any of the previously listed skin types, being difficult to manage. Once you know your unique skin type, you can start to look for products that will bring it close to a balanced skin type - moisturising and hydrating dry skin or reducing the amount of oil produced by oily skin. Always wear a moisturiser or foundation with a sun protection formula in as nothing ages like the sun.

Of course, there are so many different areas you can focus on and I haven't even touched diet and exercise. It really is important to focus on all aspects of your health and wellbeing. This may feel drawn out and time-consuming, but all and all, the results will prove more than worth the time, effort and money you’ll invest into the process of being as healthy as you can be.
