Marco Polo MY WAY Travel Journal Review

I love to document my travels and I do this in many ways. Sometimes I make notes on my Iphone, most of the time I write about it on my blog, but recently I have found a lovely, dare I say it, old fashioned way of documenting my travels - in a travel journal.

There is something special about opening the pages of a travel journal and putting pen to paper. Writing Day One on top of the page, and letting your thoughts flow about what excited you today.

A choice of 4 covers

Recently I was sent a Marco Polo My Way travel journal to review on my blog and here are my musings about this journal and what to look for when you buy a travel journal.

Cost

An interesting travel journal that doesn't break the bank

When I was looking for a travel journal a while ago, most of the journals I could find were gorgeous and elaborate affairs, bound in leather. They were also incredibly expensive. This brings me to one of the first pointers, the cost of a travel journal.

Now any of us could go out there and pick up a notebook and write in it but if you want something to look back on, do you really want it to look plain and boring? So here is the first thing, buy a journal that looks interesting, and dare I say it exciting but also doesn't break the bank. If you are an avid traveller you don't want to spend all your money on the travel journal when you could be travelling!

The Marco Polo travel journal is a very reasonable £7.99 for a hard back cover an and has a choice of 4 covers, I picked the passport cover.

Size

An easy size to pop in your bag but big enough for keepsakes

I personally think a good travel journal has to be portable, not too big and has a hard back to stop it being damaged in your bag. If it's a hassle to carry around then you won't and then you will forget to write in it.

The Marco Polo Travel journal isn't too small, and isn't too big. In fact it's a perfect size to pop in your bag and carry with you on your journeys. It's also big enough to keep any tickets and bits and bobs in the back of the journal.

Design
Divided into different sections these are stickers to personalise your journal

Many travel journals are free form but I like a travel journal that organises me and has sections. This is useful for writing down any planning and costs, the section where you are on the go and then thoughts and notes after the journey.

This travel journal does indeed organise you into sections - Before The Journey, On The Journey and After The Journey are the main areas.  It actually doesn't have lines but little dots to guide your writing, so if you want to scribble in without worrying too much you can, alternatively if you are a more traditional soul you can still write in straight lines. I love the pocket at the back to keep any tickets, postcards and small souvenirs in, and even the elastic bookmark to keep the page is very useful.

Fun

Emoticons stickers to add some fun, to stick or not to stick, that is the question...

Most travel journals are simple affairs, sometimes I think they could be made more fun and user friendly.

The Marco Polo MW travel journal has an abundance of stickers to personalise the book, over 100. This is a genius idea! Stickers such as My Best Moments, My Biggest Surprises and My Favourite Food can be peeled off and used to make the journal fun and unique to you. A sheet of yellow emoticons are also included. If you have ever wanted to stick a winky face on your journal, now you can.

In conclusion I really liked the Marco Polo My Way travel journal.  I found it affordable, fun and a great size to carry on my travels. It also gives structure to your writing without being too restrictive. A great gift for someone you love or a treat for you, all you need now is to book your latest epic journey.
