Hotel Chocolat Tasting Box Competition Ends 12/11

Hotel Chocolat, the luxury chocolate company makes the perfect chocolates which make excellent gifts but did you know that they also have a tasting club? No? Well, let me tell you all about it here.

The chocolate subscription club is a service that means once a month you get a special edition box of delicious chocolates delivered to your door. What's especially cool is that you are given a chance to rate the chocolates and influence future selections through your scores as well as getting the chance to taste experimental chocolates before they hit the shelves.

So I was given a box to try. The chocolates were delicious as always. I have to admit I am a big fan of this chocolate brand so it's hard to be objective! My favourites were the raspberry pannacotta, with lush fresh raspberry flavours, and the peach and jasmine, a sweet delightful and fruity centre enrobed in white chocolate.

In fact, all the chocolates were delightful and really high quality, you could tell by the taste. That's because they use best cocoa powder in the chocolates, cocoa powder from cocoa farmers they support in St Lucia.

I also like the mix of white, milk and dark chocolates in the box, a little something for everyone really. Every month, the box is unique and especially chosen by their in-house chocolatiers, and every month they create new and delectable chocolates for their customers to try.

If you sign up, your first box will be delivered to your door within 5 days and at the moment your first box is only £9.99 with a bag of free chocolate 'gemstones' too. A great deal I think you will admit.

Today on my blog I am giving you a chance to win a one-month tasting box of from Hotel Chocolat worth £22.99.  Entry is easy via the Gleam app below. While you are here don't forget to check out the other competitions I have running too. Good luck!

Win Hotel Chocolat Mother Day Sleekster Ends 16/03

If you have been following my blog over the last five years you may have realised that I am a big fan of Hotel Chocolat. This luxury chocolate company produce some of the best chocolate out there, the flavours are inspired and they also help support cocoa growing communities in St Lucia and Ghana.

Receiving a box of chocolates from Hotel Chocolat is always a treat, the packaging is always beautiful, the tissue paper and bags are gorgeous and when ordering online you even get a little gift card. It's these small touches that really make a present.

When choosing chocolates in my local shop in Cardiff, I find it so hard to decide. Do I buy one of the thick delicious slabs, encrusted with cookies, shortcake or brownies or do I go for a selection of little dessert chocolates known as the Patisserie chocolates? Decisions decisions!

Now for Mother's Day, the selection this year is immense. Some of my favourites are below.
The Mother's Day Sleekster £22.50

The Mother's Day H Box £12.50
The Mother's Day pocket selection £8

Today I am teaming up with Hotel Chocolat to give away a Mother's Day Sleekster worth £22.50. To enter I want to know your favourite mum moment. It can be a funny moment, it can be a sentimental moment, it can be a touching moment, it can be an embarrassing moment, it can be something that sums up your mum and all she does for you.  One of those moments where you go, 'That's my mum!'. It can be a moment that you have had being a mum.

My proudest moment as a mum was when my son Jake was 16 and he was awarded a trophy in school for the highest score at art at GCSE. My mum moment was the moment that tears started streaming down my face when he went up on stage to collect his award. I was so so proud.

Me and Jake my darling boy

I was even prouder because when he was a little boy I was told by the teacher in nursery teacher that he would never attend mainstream education. The reason? He was very active, didn't talk a lot, and had some speech difficulties, he would shout out on the carpet and not put his hand up. He would get frustrated easily as he couldn't verbalise his thoughts. I immediately thought that was ridiculous! I knew he was a bright boy, after all, he could do a puzzle in no time, his art was amazing, he was showing his intelligence in so many other ways.

So I took him out of the nursery and put him in a playgroup that was much less structured. There he thrived and over time his speech and behaviour improved.

He went to a normal primary school and at 16 received 9 GCSES and IT qualifications and at 18 we were all over the moon when he was awarded 3 A levels with an A grade in art. He is now studying visual effects at university and wants to work on big Hollywood films. He makes me so proud, I'm actually welling up here!

Anyway, to enter this competition tell me your mum moment, as I said it can be funny, sentimental or anything in between, and remember go with your mum instincts, your child can do so much more than sometimes people give them credit for. Good luck!

Hotel Chocolat Valentine's Day

I'm a bit of a chocolate connoisseur and one of my favourite brands is Hotel Chocolat. This award winning British company, produce ethical luxury chocolates with gorgeous decadent flavours. At the heart of their chocolate is their ethical stance, as they help support cocoa farmers and their communities in Saint Lucia and Ghana.

Angus Thirwell the co-founder and CEO eats chocolate every day in his research and desire to make sure the company produces the best. Every single recipe is tested personally as he is such a perfectionist.

I adore the attention to detail in every Hotel Chocolat delivery.  Every package is perfectly packed, even the tissue paper is branded with the Hotel Chocolat logo and sealed with the emblem, as well as a branded bag and gift card.

This Valentine's Day they have some beautiful and delicious chocolate boxes for their fans to devour. I was sent a box of to review - the 'Hearts And Truffle Gift Box'.

The Hearts And Truffle Gift Box

When I opened the box I was delighted as they were beautifully presented, it really had the wow factor. The box was an assortment of filled  hearts and truffles. A combination of chocolates with and without alcohol, this box was a real treat.

In a box you get a variety of chocolates including carrot cake  raspberry smoothie, passion fruit margarita, classic champagne, mousse au chocolate, pink champagne, praline hearts, salted caramel and berry delightful.  My favourites were the passion fruit margarita, the classic champagne and the carrot cake chocolate. The carrot cake chocolate had a smooth inner full of lovely dreamy chocolate. It also did actually taste of the frosting that you get on carrot cake too! The classic champagne had a decadent hit of alcohol and a fabulous flavour inside the milk chocolate outer shell. Truly divine! The passion fruit margarita was tingy, zingy and delicious with the taste of lime coming through the sweet smooth centre.

This 'Hearts and Truffles' gift box makes a super gift for a loved one on Valentine's Day or a surreptitious treat for the chocolate lovers amongst you.

Hotel Chocolat asked me if I would like to send a box to one of my friends as a Valentine's date treat and I choose my friend Linda Hobbis. I've know Linda for about 4 years, and we met online through our love of entering competitions. We met up when I ran a Welsh competition group and we still see each other now and again to catch up. What I love about Linda is her dry sense of humour. She always makes me laugh and is like a wise old owl, or should I say wise young owl! Linda runs the lifestyle blog Mother Distracted which I recommend for a great read, it really shows her great writing style and her personality shines through.

If you are looking for a box of chocolates for Valentine's or Mothers Day, in fact any occasion, I would highly recommend Hotel Chocolat. What woman, or man for that matter could resist these super chocolates and there is plenty of choice on their website too with Valentines gifts from £2.50? Luxury chocolates of outstanding quality make a very happy recipient.

Tell me have you tried Hotel Chocolat?
Family Fever

Hotel Chocolat Christmas 2015

Regular readers of my blog will know how much I love Hotel Chocolat. This award winning British company which was set up 20 years ago, produce ethical luxury chocolates with amazing flavour. They are especially fantastic as they help support cocoa farmers and their communities in Saint Lucia and Ghana. Not a lot of people know that!

The managing directors of the company are really hands on too. Angus Thirwell the co-founder and CEO eats chocolate every day and personally tests every single recipe. Now that's a job I would love to have - wouldn't you?

Attention to detail is important to Hotel Chocolat. The chocolates in the stores are immaculately displayed. Staff are all dressed in chic black and are on hand to answer any questions you have. Pop into your local store (there are now 81 in the UK) and samples are always available to try, tempting you to buy more.

If you are ordering from the website everything is beautifully packaged. Delivered in a Hotel Chocolat branded bag and stylishly wrapped in tissue paper it's the finishing touches that make you realise what a quality brand they have. Like the card that comes with the delivery.

Today I am reviewing two of the 500g 'Slabs' of chocolate that they make. The Billionaire's Shortbread and the Rocky Road Slab. I normally buy the H boxes and like the dessert style chocolates but I thought I would try these for a change.
The Hotel Chocolat packaging

The Billionaire's Shortbread Slab

First the Billionaire's Shortbread Slab. When I removed the plastic packaging the sweet smell of chocolate just hit me. Each section of chocolate is slightly different to each other but compliments each part well. In the middle the sweet caramel flavour mingles with the slghtly darker chocolate section decorated with dark chocolate stripes, all sitting next to a section of chocolate scattered with crispy shortbread pieces. This addition is lovely as it brings texture and crunch and lifts the chocolate to another level.

This huge 500g slab of chocolate is a perfect present for a chocoholic and is also great to share with the family. The luxurious taste of the chocolate means a little goes a long way and the different sections means that different tastes are accommodated. My only negative point is that the chocolate is devilishly hard to break!

The Rocky Road Slab

The Rocky Road slab is a little less sophisticated, in fact if I was a teenager I would call it a Hot Mess -  a "state of total disarray while still maintaining an undeniable attractiveness". Tasty crunchy cookies meet smooth white chocolate chunks and crispy puffed rice. What I personally liked about this slab was that it was very satisfying - a little taste goes a long way. The texture was amazing too, the puffed rice added crunch whilst the cookie added a slightly softer but still interesting texture. There is a mix of milk and dark chocolate as well all topped off with white chocolate buttons.

Rocky Road Slab and Billionaire Shortbread Slab

Priced at £16 these slabs are great treats to put under the Christmas tree. They also come in smaller portions too and the Winter Nano Slab Gallery is like a selection box of all smaller individual portions if you want to try all the different flavours.

Well after a few days of stuffing our faces we still had this amount left of both slabs. I think you can see here how thick the chocolate is, mmmm.

Other Christmas ideas from Hotel Chocolate include Festive Wreaths, Advent Calendars and Christmas selection boxes. I can highly recommend the Christmas Crackers as I bought these before and the jokes are actually funny and the chocolate is totally delicious.

You can follow Hotel Chocolat on Facebook and Twitter which I recommend doing as they are always running competitions.

So no surprises from me here, being a long term fan of Hotel Chocolat, I can highly recommend these slabs of mouthwatering goodness.

Tell me have you ever tried Hotel Chocolat? Would you buy some as a Christmas gift?

Be My Valentine Hotel Chocolat

This time of year, I start dreaming about the mouth watering goodies I will get from my husband on Valentine's Day. Those of you who read my blog regularly may know that I am a massive fan of Hotel Chocolat, so I'm always leaving hints for my husband, with their web page open on special occasions.

What I like about Hotel Chocolat is the detail. If you order from the website for home delivery, everything is packaged beautifully. Your order is delivered in a Hotel Chocolat bag and lovingly wrapped in tissue paper with a card. It's the finishing touches that make you realise what a quality brand they have.

It's all in the detail

Then when you open the tissue, you get chocolate of an outstanding quality and creaminess, and with each chocolate you can tell great thought has gone into the flavours and the ingredients. The company are hot on ethics too, and pay farmers a fair deal for the cocoa they produce.

Gorgeous packaging

I have been browsing the Hotel Chocolate website and I have so many favourites this Valentine's Day, I thought I would share them with my readers below.

The Valentines Goody Bag

The Valentines Goody Bag £18

This goody bag is full of yummy treats for your loved one. How could they not adore the White Chocolate and Passion Fruit Truffles or the sweet deliciousness that is the caramel sweethearts, called Nudge-Nudge, say no more? Or what about the Champagne Truffles, smooth and creamy with a hint of champagne, or the Mellow Heart slab of milk chocolate with a heart centre. The last tempting delight in the goody bag is the Valentines truffle duo, featuring a Caramel Gianduja and a Strawberry Cheesecake.

Myself and one of blogger friends Chris, from Mummy Of 3 Diaries were gifted this goody bag and we were both impressed with the choice and variety of the chocolate inside. My favourite was the Strawberry Cheesecake, which has a white chocolate base, a layer of strawberry essence and a strawberry topping with white chocolate pieces. A really delicious chocolate. Another favourite of us both was the Champagne Truffles which were light, smooth and dreamy inside a crisp chocolate shell and a hint of champagne. Indulgence at its best. My son adored the Nudge-Nudge, caramel sweetheart chocolates, a sweet little treat. My husband enjoyed the Mellow Heart, a double slab with a heart centre as the quality of the milk chocolate was outstanding. The fruitiness of the Passion Fruit Truffles were enjoyed by all.

The Little Cheesecakes Bag

Little Cheesecakes £5

I am a big fan of chocolates that are based on desserts - they seem so decadent. These cheesecake inspired chocolates would make a lovely gift - for me! Flavours include Rhubarb & Ginger, Strawberry, Lemon and Caramel, all mixed with the luxurious flavours of mascarpone and cream. These chocolates would be perfect with coffee after a fabulous meal.

Straight From The Heart Gift Box

Straight From The Heart £39

This luxury box of chocolates would be a chocoholics dream. Containing 35 delectable nibbles, it's a gift straight from the heart. With luxury flavours such as passion fruit and champagne, this box is meant for sharing with the person you love. Or if you can't bare to share, eat them all yourself. I won't tell, honest.

The Pink Collection Gift Set

The Pink Collection £26

Most ladies I know like some bubbly now and again, and the style icon Marilyn Monroe was reputed to have taken a bath in 350 bottles of Champagne. If your partner can't afford 350 bottle of Champagne, what about The Pink Collection gift set of sparkling pink rose, champagne truffles, and a strawberries and cream Eton Mess slab. Pink is the new black darling....

So if you like the chocolates you see on my blog, and you haven't got a Valentine, maybe Hotel Chocolat can be your Valentine this Valentine's Day?

Happy Easter From Hotel Chocolat

I must admit, I am a bit of a fan of Hotel Chocolat and have been for a while. This British chocolatier that was set up 20 years ago, produce luxury chocolates with a sense of fun and an ethical conscious. Did you know they help support cocoa growing communities in Saint Lucia and Ghana?

What I also love about the brand is that their presentation and packaging are spot on. I do admit, I let out a little squeal when this was delivered by the postman. The ribbon and bow added some class to the gift bag and the card was a lovely finishing touch.

Inside the bag was a gorgeous box with the You Crack Me Up egg. This extra thick egg is sure to make you smile with its 12 smiley face chocolates and happy chicks. The thick milk chocolate egg is edged with white chocolate. This smooth, creamy mellow chocolate egg melts on your tongue and taste little a little piece of heaven.

I enlisted the aid of my son and husband to test the chocolate out - well I think if I hadn't they would have never spoken to me again!

I made notes on a number of the chocolates before they were scoffed by the family, unfortunately I didn't get to try them all - but that is a recommendation in it's own right!

The milk chocolate chick had a simple mellow chocolate taste that was very satisfying and yummy. The milk chocolate bunny was a favourite. The creamy milk chocolate had a hint of caramel running though and was simply delicious - a very luxurious tasty chocolate. Another favourite was the milk chocolate square with the white chocolate fried egg. It had a hard shell and inside was sweet toffee and a praline cream. The crunch of the milk chocolate shell and the dreaminess of the toffee and praline was a taste sensation.

The You Crack Me Up egg

The You Crack Me Up egg is available in the run up to Easter from Hotel Chocolat priced at £28. It isn't cheap but it's certainly worth it to spoil that special someone. Hotel Chocolat have a range of Easter Eggs and Mother's Day gifts on their website with a range of prices. As always the quality shines out in their products and I feel you pay for quality in this day and age.

Hotel Chocolat Christmas Giveaway - Ends 21/11

Hotel Chocolat make the most amazing chocolates. The British chocolatier chain now have over seventy stores in the UK and worldwide. I first came across them in Bath when I was staying there on a short break. The store there is like an Aladdin's cave of chocolate. So many delicious and intriguing chocolates, so many delights to try!

Hotel Chocolat base their brand on three main ingredients, Innovation, Authenticity and Ethics. Their look is influenced by the London fashion scene and their chocolate has an authentic taste "less sugar more cocoa". It's great that they also base their business on a strong ethical stance and over the last 8 years have invested in the cocoa communities in Saint Lucia and Ghana. They are a rare breed -
a chocolatier that actually grown their own cocoa beans and look after their suppliers.

Hotel Chocolat have a gorgeous selection of Christmas goodies, from Advent Calenders to Gift Bags, from Christmas Crackers to Christmas Hampers, all made with the same attention to detail, the same delectable chocolate.
