When to go
July is the hottest month with temperatures of 74 degrees centigrade. For music lovers check out the Nice Jazz Festival in July. Spring and Autumn are great times to visit, with the Nice Carnival being on in February or March.
How to get there
Flights from the UK by carriers such as BA and Easyjet are just under 2 hours, and you can fly from a variety of cities including London, Bristol, Birmingham and Edinburgh.
Alternatively, you can get there in by taking the Eurostar from London to Paris then changing. This takes approximately 8 and a 1/2 hours.
Where to stay
If money is no object you can have your pick of exclusive and luxurious hotels, from Hotel Le Negresco with Michelin-starred dining, sea views and antique furniture to Hotel Suisse, a chocolate box stunning boutique hotel with the best sea views.
For an alternative with extra space try an apartment like this one above on the Promenade Des Anglais from Clickstay. Perfectly situated in the heart of everything this two bedroom, two bathrooms apartment is surprisingly affordable. If you even wanted to, you could cook your own food and wash your own clothes, something I try not to do on holiday if I can help it but the option is there! What to see and do
Culture lovers will enjoy the Massena Museum surrounded by beautiful gardens - ideal if you're trying to see the best of Nice in a day. With antiques from the Massena family and a number of artefacts from Napoleon including his death mask, the Massena Museum is well worth a visit.
Art lovers will be enthralled with two museums to Marc Chagall and Matisse whilst the Palais De Justice, an ornate former court of law will please architecture lovers with its neoclassical architecture.
For sun worshippers the public beaches are pebbly so if you don't mind paying, go to one of the private beaches such as Castel Plage with lockers, decking and a beachside restaurant.
If you love to explore, walk around the winding alleyways of the old town (or Vieux Nice as the locals call it) and find reasonably priced restaurants, cute boutiques and lively bars. Check out the food market, the flower market and the Monday Flea market held at Cours Saleya, the large and impressive market square.
A post about Nice wouldn't be complete without mention the Promenade des Anglais, the perfect place for sitting in a cafe or bar with a glass of French wine and people watching.
Day Trips
It would be a shame to come to Nice and not explore the French Riveria. Regular buses and trains go to Cannes, Monaco and Monte Carlo and all are under 50 minutes on public transport. Whilst the lively town of St Tropez and historic Marseille are a little further afield.
Walk the streets of Monaco where the F1 Grand Prix is held every May, explore Cannes home of the famous film festival and put your money on black at the Monte Carlo casino.
As you can see there is so much to see and do in Nice that it makes a fascinating weekend break or holiday destination all year round. We can't wait to go later in the year.
