Looking to Improve Your Wellbeing? These Simple Steps Can Help

Our health and well-being should always be the first thing on our list of priorities. Without optimum health, it's difficult to maintain a good quality of life. Of course, saying that you’re going to prioritise health is easier said than done. There are so many different areas to tackle that you can often feel at a loss when considering what changes you can make to your life for the better. Here are just a few different areas you might want to focus on.

Cut Out Bad Habits

When switching to a healthier lifestyle, you don’t have to throw yourself in the deep end, instead, you can greatly benefit from simply cutting out a few bad habits. Here are a few to consider.

Smoking

If you smoke, chances are that you know this is extremely bad for you. It’s consistently highlighted by health authorities and even the packaging on cigarettes and tobacco show the awful effects smoking can have on your body. From heart disease to respiratory problems, smoking can seriously shorten your life. On top of this, it’s expensive. Smoking is, however, a surprisingly common habit. Of course, quitting is easier said than done. Nicotine is an extremely addictive substance, so people will return to it time and time again. But quitting is possible. Use nicotine patches, nicotine gum, nicotine sprays and a host of other quitting aids like vaping to help you along the journey to becoming smoke-free. Also if you want to enhance your smile and get rid of your yellowed teeth, be sure to consider Lombard Dental Studio in Thousand Oaks.

Drinking Excessively or Too Frequently

We don’t tend to survey the consequences of drinking that often. At the end of the day, drinking is legal and it can be a highly social activity that many of us engage with. When you drink in moderation and infrequently, drinking can be fine and pose little threat to your well-being. Alcohol, however, can be addictive and drinking excessively can lead to a variety of health complaints and conditions, such as serious liver damage and diabetes. Make sure to familiarise yourself with recommended drinking allowances and do your utmost to stay below these.
Staying hydrated is an important part of overall health, and drinking enough water can be difficult when life gets busy. Fortunately, there are a few smart solutions to make sure that you stay on top of your hydration goals. If you feel you need more hydration mobile IV in Malibu is always an option.

If you are struggling or feel dependent on alcohol, reach out. Try support groups and even counselling for addiction. There’s a lot of support out there, so you’re never alone in this!

Keep Up to Date With Your Health Appointments

It’s recommended that we all attend a number of health appointments to keep an eye on various aspects of our health and well-being.  If you are having difficulty getting an appointment on the NHS,
Guys & St Thomas do private healthcare you can trust. Sure, you may only need to visit your general practitioner when you’re exhibiting symptoms or have a notable health complaint, but other check-ups are just as important whether you feel like you’re in good health or not.

Here is a couple to schedule.

A Dental Check Up

You should see your dentist once every six months. This is important. Often, you may be experiencing trouble with your teeth that can be diagnosed early and treated before the problem worsens and you begin experiencing unpleasant symptoms, such as dental pain, abscesses or worse. This appointment will also give you the opportunity to have a scale and polish, which can see you leave with a sparkling smile. So whether you are looking for a dentist in Aberdeen or a dentist York, get yourself booked in now for a dental check-up.

An Optometrist Appointment

The average adult should go for an eye test once every two years. This really isn’t a huge commitment, so you need to make sure that you keep up to date with things and don’t skip this one. An optometrist appointment will see a professional survey of the overall health of your eyes from front to back. They’ll be able to diagnose any developing conditions, such as glaucoma, cataracts, or even seemingly unrelated conditions like diabetes. They will also be able to carry out an eye test to ensure that your vision is okay. If you struggle to see anything, they can write up the right prescription that will help to correct your vision. You could opt for contact lenses or glasses, such as Carrera glasses.

Maintain a Good Skincare Routine

A surprising number of people don’t have a thorough skincare routine, however, a good skincare routine can ensure that you’re looking after your skin, protecting your skin from the sun and help prevent the signs of ageing.

Your skin type will be completely unique, but most people fall into one of the following four categories: normal, dry, oily or combination. Normal skin tends to be balanced. Dry skin doesn’t produce enough sebum, so it can dry out and flake, feel rough and look dull. Oily skin produces too much sebum and has a greasy appearance, and large, visible pores. Combination skin combines any of the previously listed skin types, being difficult to manage. Once you know your unique skin type, you can start to look for products that will bring it close to a balanced skin type - moisturising and hydrating dry skin or reducing the amount of oil produced by oily skin. Always wear a moisturiser or foundation with a sun protection formula as nothing ages like the sun.

Of course, there are so many different areas you can focus on and I haven't even touched diet and exercise. It really is important to focus on all aspects of your health and well-being.
Music has also been proven to give numerous benefits to our health. To know these benefits, you can check out Musicaroo

Improving your well-being may feel drawn out and time-consuming, but all and all, the results will prove more than worth the time, effort and money you’ll invest into the process of being as healthy as you can be.

How to Attract Bees & Butterflies To Your Garden

We have had some beautiful weather recently in the UK and with the gardening season well and truly in full swing, now is the time to make the most of the sunshine and turn your garden into a butterfly and bee haven. Let's have a look at how you can attract bees and butterflies to your garden and why you should do it. This is an ad.

The importance of bees and butterflies

Bees and butterflies are natures pollinators. They help plants grow and breed by spreading pollen between flowering plants. The vast majority of plants we need for food rely on pollination, especially by bees.

Bees and butterflies also pollinate roughly 80 per cent of the wildflowers in Europe, so by pollinating the flowers they are spreading diversity in the flower world.

Unfortunately, bees are becoming less common. This is due to a number of reasons including loss of habitat and food sources to the effects of climate change and exposure to pesticides. We must act now to ensure bees don't just survive but that they thrive.

How to attract bees and butterflies to your garden

Here are some ways in which you can attract bees and butterflies to your garden.

1. Plant a variety of colourful flowers

Bees love colourful plants so plant a variety in blue, purple, yellow and all colours of the rainbow. Bluebells, crocuses, forget-me-nots, and comfreys are some such plants.

2. Plant flowering fruit

Apples and strawberries are great flowering fruit that attracts bees and butterflies. They are also amazing to eat fresh from your garden so why not plant some so you benefit as well as the wildlife?

3. Go organic

Avoid chemical pesticides. Use ladybirds and certain herbs as natural deterrents that won't kill the bees and butterflies.

4. Don't weed the garden

If you can cope with it, don't weed the garden. Plants like dandelions are rich in pollen and nectar and are excellent for bees say experts at the British Ecological Society and each yellow head contains 100 flowers for them to feed on.

5. Avoid planting lawns

Lawns offer very little for pollinating insects and are mown too frequently to benefit them, so if you can, avoid planting large lawns and instead plant colourful flowering plants.

6. Provide water for pollinators

If you provide water, pollinators, including bees and butterflies will stay longer in your garden, so make a little pond or even a water source just for the bees and butterflies. Apparently, a water source with a smell will attract bees, Wet earth, moss, aquatic plans, worms and more will all make the water easier to find for bees. Try to keep the water fresh to avoid mosquitos.

7. Leave fallen fruit

Butterflies need food to be available from the early spring through to late summer. In August, some species will feed on the sugar inside discarded fruit, so leave any fruit on the ground to provide food for them.

8. Make a bee house

You can make a bee house easily by drilling holes in deadwood. Check out videos on YouTube if you want some inspiration for a bee house that's more interesting.

9. Read all your can about bees and butterflies

Reading about insect pollinators is interesting and fun. 'The Good Bee - A Celebration Of Bees And How To Save Them', as well as a wide range of discount gardening books are available at The Works.

10. Get a beehive!

If you get a beehive you will have fresh honey as well as encouraging the spread of bees. Every year local beekeeper associations run courses for new people. Visit the British Beekeepers' Association (BBKA) website for more information.

What To Consider When Remodelling A Kitchen

Having a new kitchen installed can make a big difference to your home, however, having a new kitchen installed can be a costly experience.   So if you are thinking of a new kitchen why not have your kitchen renovated and remodelled instead at a fraction of the price? If you are looking to have your kitchen remodelled and renovated let's have a look at what you need to take into consideration so you can avoid making any mistakes.

Upcycle kitchen cabinets

Rather than buy new kitchen cabinets consider upcycling the ones you have. You can easily do this by replacing the doors for the cabinets only. This is easily achieved thanks to manufacturers such as Lovech, as they can make doors that fit and match your existing cabinets precisely. Another alternative is to repaint the doors if they are wood. Just remove the doors, sand down, prime and repaint in a new colour. You will be surprised by the difference it can make.

Illuminate the way

Lighting can make a big difference to a kitchen, especially if you spend a lot of time cooking. Downlighting and spotlighting can really illuminate the areas making it easier to see when preparing and cooking food, as well as adding a modern look.  So invest in some lighting to bring your kitchen into 2020.

Buy new appliances

If you have had the same appliances for ages, consider replacing them. This will quickly revamp the kitchen if you have the money. It's easier to replace freestanding appliances but it's also worth looking into the cost of fitted units too. A retro new fridge freezer or sleek modern cooker can really alter the look of your kitchen.

Replace the floor

If your floor isn't up to scratch then look into replacing it. Vinyl floors are relatively cheap to replace and easy to keep clean, whilst hardwood flooring and ceramic tiles are hardwearing and keep their look for longer. Check your budget and see what you can afford to revamp your floor.

Develop storage

You may have cluttered cupboards and a lack of storage so think about developing your storage solutions. Firstly declutter what you have, bin anything that isn't useful or attractive in your kitchen or donate to charity. Then consider getting new storage. Maybe a free-standing kitchen table with drawers will be a useful addition or put up extra shelves and hanging rails to make use of every inch of space.

Add some accessories

Accessories can make a kitchen look different for relatively little cost. Some new kitchen canisters, smart new tea towels, a new chopping board and some wall art can make all the difference. Think of a theme and follow it through with your accessories to make it look seamless.

Paint the walls

Of course, one of the simplest things to do to make a kitchen look fresh and new is to paint the walls.  White will make the kitchen feel clean and fresh, yellow will add a sunny and cheerful look and blue will make it feel cool and Mediterranean in vibe.

So here are some ideas for a kitchen renovation that won't break the bank. If you have any ideas yourself or have undergone a kitchen remodel let me know.

How To Make Company Cars More Sustainable

Being more sustainable is your civic responsibility to the next generation. By making the right choices you allow them to enjoy the planet as you have, which is the least you can do for them. This is an ad.

Company cars are a popular perk, reward, and even a necessity for many businesses but they don’t lend themselves immediately to sustainability. However, there are ways that you can make them more sustainable and you should put as many of them as you can into practice right away. From saving paper to going electric, this is how you can make your company cars more sustainable.

Use fuel cards to save paper

Paper is one of the biggest threats to the planet and every time you use it you make your business less sustainable. It might not seem obvious how you can reduce the paper your company cars account for, but there is a way – fuel cards.

Fuel cards reduce the amount of paper you use by creating electronic invoices and receipts. This may feel like a small difference to your sustainability, and it is. However, that’s precisely the point because a series of little alterations to the way we live and work makes a big difference.

You can start making your company cars more sustainable right now by investing in a fuel card today. There are plenty of options at iCompario, from big companies like Shell to multi-brand options like Fuel Genie.

Whichever option you choose, the result is that your company cars will cause less paper to be used and your business will be more sustainable.

Cut down on the air conditioning

Fuel usage is one of the greatest causes of global warming because it burns carbon dioxide, creating greenhouse gases that artificially heat up the planet.

It stands to reason that reducing your fuel consumption makes your company cars more sustainable and one of the simplest ways you can do this is by avoiding air conditioning.

Air conditioning burns more fuel and puts more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. There’s a straightforward solution to this problem – stop your drivers from using their aircon setting as often as they have been.

The risk is that your drivers might take swap air con for having the windows open. This will make your cars less sustainable, so you need to have a balance. One solution is to get them to have the air conditioning on during town driving and the windows open while on the highway.

Go electric to stop burning fossil fuels

While there are many ways that you can change the ways you use your vehicles to reduce the amount of diesel and petrol they burn, the unavoidable truth is that fossil fuels aren’t sustainable.

This means that if you really want to make your company cars more sustainable then you simply have to go electric.

I’m aware that this will cost your business money and it might be that you can’t go fully electric. For instance, we’re not quite at the stage where we have electric lorries. However, there’s a financial benefit to switching to electric cars.
One caveat here, as vehicle technology changes, you should also consider approaching a driving school for further fleet training to keep your staff aware of any adaptations required.

From April 2020, electric cars no longer have to pay any benefit in kind (BIK) tax. Without knowing what vehicles you currently use, it’s impossible for me to say how much money this would save you. However, one thing I can say with 100% certainty is that paying zero BIK will cost you less than paying some BIK.

Conclusion

Using fuel cards, reducing your air conditioning consumption, and going electric are three great ways to make your company cars more sustainable. While you might not be able to put them all into practice right away, it should be easy to put at least one of them into practice today.

So, do your civic duty and look after the next generation by putting one of these tips into practice now.

Happy At Home: Using Your Home As A Starting Point To A Better You

Learning to be happy in every area of your life is important, but happiness begins at home. If you're not happy at home how can you be happier in every other area of your life? What is the key? It's all about incorporating certain habits and approaches in your home environment.

Look At Your Sleeping Situation

When we don't sleep well we often struggle for most of the day. Many of us have problems sleeping at the moment, with the worries of the world on our shoulders. So let's look at how we can sleep better.  Practical things to do include ensuring you are getting exercise to make you tired, having a milky drink before bedtime, and turning off the technology at least an hour before bed. Don't let the kids or pets share a bed either!

Also create a sanctuary in your bedroom with fresh sheets, soft lighting and natural colours. There is a very handy guide on https://grand-designs.co.uk/5-tips-for-creating-a-sanctuary-in-your-bedroom/ to get you started. Needless to say, if you don't sleep well this can have a devastating impact in every other area of your life, you can lack focus, and even make you ill over time, so do the best o get as much sleep as you can.

Focus On Small Practices

When you start to focus on the little things in life that matter this can give you clarity. Something that everybody should start doing is to exercise gratitude. The world is stressful right now so focus on being grateful for the things that we have, such as good health, people who care, or money in the bank.  A gratitude journal is a very easy thing to start but there is a guide on https://positivepsychology.com/gratitude-journal/ to point you in the right direction.

Small practices don't have to take over every area of your life. If you can spend a few minutes every day doing things that are good for you you will feel the benefits in every other aspect. This can mean taking some out to spending time every day doing a favourite hobby, going for a walk in the fresh air, or practising mindfulness or meditation. If these little practices, talking time to do things you enjoy, that will spill over into other areas of our lives and give them more meaning.

Cultivating Experiences At Home

We can become complacent in our home environment. After all, we spend a lot of time there, especially at the moment. If we can start to turn our home into something different rather than thinking that it limits us it can become a far richer environment. What about games nights with the family, camping in the front room with the kids, or spend the afternoon creating a spa day with your daughter?

If we struggle to be happy and confident in various parts of our lives we need to look at the areas that we can control. Being at home in our immediate environment is the perfect start.

Hair Loss Solutions

Hair loss can be a traumatic experience for both men and women. Whilst some choose to embrace the loss of their locks, others are keen to find a solution or a remedy to stop them losing more or to cover up what they have lost.

There are plenty of different treatments out there for hair loss right now - they may not be suitable for everyone but they see many people using them year in, year out. Here are some hair loss treatment solutions to consider…

A Hairpiece

Some men choose to go completely bald, others choose to cover up. When it comes to hair loss solutions for men, there is no one size fits all answer. Something many men try out is a hairpiece. There are many affordable hairpieces for balding male members of the community with different colours of hair and different styles too. Hairbro currently have six different sizes and twenty different colours meaning you truly are spoilt for choice and are bound to find something that matches you or suits you.

It is important to consider what hairpiece is right for you. Some will look more natural than others, some will cost more than others, some will last longer than others. It is all about finding the right hairpiece for you.

Medication

If you believe your hair loss to be caused by a medical condition or it is happening for a particular reason, then medication may be a great treatment or remedy for your hair loss. Some doctors will prescribe certain medications for both male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness. If you think you may be in need of some medication for your hair loss, make an appointment to see your GP and go through things so you can get a proper diagnosis.

Hair Transplant

You will usually try other potential solutions before arriving at the hair transplant stage however it is easy to see why many people are choosing this as a treatment for their hair loss. When someone has a hair transplant, they have existing hair cells moved to the thinning patches on their head. There are plenty of famous people who have had hair transplants including Wayne Rooney and James Nesbitt.

Steroid Injections

This could be considered medication but I thought it deserved a paragraph of its own. We all know that steroids are used to treat a variety of things when it comes to our bodies and conditions we may have so it is little surprise steroid injections are sometimes used too. These are injections into the bald patch which hopefully stimulate the follicles to work normally again and stimulate regrowth.

These are just a few treatment ideas for hair loss. There are a variety of other treatments available out there, some lesser-known than the ones mentioned above perhaps, and these seem to be growing in popularity. It is great to know that there is so much choice out there for people that are feeling self-conscious about the loss of their hair.
