Clarins Autumn/Winter 2015 Makeup Rouge Eclat And Crayon Kohl

Now it's August, companies are sending out the Autumn/Winter samples. Today I am reviewing two new shades of Clarins Rouge Eclat lipstick and two shades of the Clarins Crayon Kohl eyeliner.

Rouge Eclat lipstick is packed full of goodies, such as Vitamin E, Jojoba and Sunflower to protect and soften lips and minimise fine lines. They market it as the first 'age defying' lipstick.

Very glamorous packaging

The two new colours for Autumn/Winter are Tawny Rose and Red Paprika. The Tawny Rose is a lovely soft brown/pink colour and is extremely wearable. What I liked about this lipstick is that it would suit many different skin tones. The Red Paprika is a stronger colour perfect for Winter time, still with a brown undertone. It feels lovely on and has a great sweet blackberry fragrance that isn't over powering, and reminded me of being in a sweet shop.  It covers like a lipstick but feels like a balm on the lips.

Wearing Tawny Rose Rouge Eclat and Violet Crayon Kohl

The packaging for these lipsticks is beautiful. In a gold stick with Clarins written on it, these lipsticks are very glamorous and you would be proud to take these out of your handbag to reapply your lippie in public. With the use of a lip liner I found the lipsticks lasted most of the day but needed reapplying once or twice.

Red Paprika on the left, Tawny Rose on the right

The Clarins Crayon Kohl is a great eye pencil to structure and define the eyes. It goes on softly and doesn't drag the skin. Each pencil has a soft brush on the end to blend and soften hard lines if needed.

Crayon Kohl in shades of 'true violet' and 'carbon black'

Dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested I didn't have any problems using these eyeliners with contact lenses in, there was no irritation at all. The
'Carbon Black' is a classic colour for a really dramatic look, but I preferred the 'True Violet' more, and felt it emphasised my dark brown eyes. The black Crayon Kohl had a sharpener included.

My only criticism of the Crayon Kohl is that if you have eyes that water easily you may find the kohl pencil does not last the night, instead go for Clarins waterproof eyeliner pencil.

Wearing the Violet Crayon Kohl

As you can see the crayon Kohl defines the eyes but can still give a soft look. I really love the Violet colour, it's now my new favourite eye liner.

The Rouge Eclat is priced at £19.50 and the Crayon Kohl £17 both from Clarins. Tell me, have you tried Clarins makeup?

Three Stylish Sunglasses You NEED This Summer

Now that Summer is here and many of you will be jetting off on holiday, you may be looking for some new sunglasses to take on your trip. Here is my pick of the stylish sunglasses that every self-respecting fashionista would want in her life in 2015.

Rayban Aviators

Mirrored Blue Flash Aviator Sunglasses - Rayban

Iconic Rayban aviators are a good choice for those with heart-shaped faces. Worn by stars such as Angelina Jolie, Kate Bosworth and fashion model Cara Delevingne, these classic sunglasses were designed in 1937 for US pilots. If you want an up-to-date twist on this look go for the mirrored lens, as seen on the 2015 catwalk by Balenciaga and Dior. Wear on the beach with waves in your hair and your best swimming cossie.

Chopard Oversized

Chopard Sch 110S Sunglasses - Sclo

These beautiful butterfly shape oversized sunglasses by Swiss luxury retailer Chopard have a stylish mauve tint and gold plated detailing on the arms. Chopard is a family run company with a tradition of excellence so if you have chosen these you have chosen well. In a retro old school style, I can imagine a film star such as Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Munroe wearing these lovely sunglasses on the Cannes red carpet. I would wear these whilst people watching in St Mark's Square, or chatting over a Bellini cocktail in Harry's Bar, Venice where the Bellini was invented.

Dior Cats Eyes

Dior Jupon 2 Cats Eye Sunglasses - Sunglasses Shop

Always design-led Dior needs no introduction. These classic 'cats eyes' sunglasses are reminiscent of the 50's and 60's era and are great for those with oval faces. As worn by Grace Kelly, Dita Von Teese and Natalie Portman these feline, feminine sunglasses are 'tres chic'. If you want a slightly softer style go for the more flattering 80's version in a softer colour than black such as navy. The perfect accessory to your trip to the country in an open-top car with a scarf in your hair.

Of course, it's not all style over substance. Sun protection is vitally important too when choosing sunglasses, so pick a design from a brand that is known for their quality and UV protection as well as their cutting edge or classic design. For some great styles check ouMessyWeekend sunglasses

Tell me do you have a favourite pair of sunglasses? What do you think of the designs I have chosen?

Travelodge Birmingham Bullring Review

Recently we were given the opportunity to review the Travelodge at the Bullring in Birmingham.

This Travelodge is excellently located right in the centre of Birmingham and less than a minutes walk from the Bullring shopping centre. The hotel has recently been updated with a modern look and features their 'Dreamer' King size beds, normally used in luxury hotels Worldwide.

As soon as we went into the building Craig on reception met us and was very welcoming and cheerful. He found our reservation quickly and confirmed that we had breakfast included and explained that it was a buffet.

Our room was on the fifth floor and unfortunately didn't have a view, instead we overlooked the service area for the vegetable market next door, and the rubbish area. However on the plus side we were virtually next to The Bullring, with many shops and places to eat and drink, within a very short stroll.

The room was a decent size, and contained one double bed and two singles. The room smelt fresh when we went in and was very clean. There were tea and coffee facilities and a fan in the room, which we needed as it was a warm day and we did not have air conditioning. The window only opened a few inches.

The bathroom was compact and bijou and in excellent condition   The bath was quite short but it didn't bother me as I am only 5ft 2inches. If you have been to a Travelodge recently you will know there are no toiletry bottles instead they have dispensers on the wall. The pressure on the shower was excellent and the water temperature was great and easily adjustable. So often in bathrooms you get mould on the shower curtain or around the the taps but there was non here - it was spotless. I liked the fact that they had hand rails on the side, always useful if you are having a bath.

The room didn't have a lot of storage space. There was no wardrobe but instead an open area with hangers for clothes. There was a few scuff marks on the wall but the condition of everything else was very good.

The bar/restaurant area downstairs was spacious and clean and very modern. We thought it was a lovely area. When we went to sit down after a couple of hours out, Craig who was on check in earlier, came over and asked if we needed anything. He explained if we did just to go over to the bar.

That night myself and my husband had a decent nights sleep. The 'Dreamer' bed was supremely comfortable although the room was warm and we did have some street noise as we had to keep the window open to keep the room cool. My son, who is 18, slept on a fold up bed, which was a full size single bed - it was a little springy but he slept well.

Breakfast in the morning cost £7.65 and was served in the cafe/bar near reception (little ones eat free). There is a selection of cereals, crossiants, muffins, grapefruit and orange segments and a cooked buffet breakfast with hot and cold drinks. It wasn't an extensive breakfast, it would be nice to see more fruit but it did the job. The quality of the bacon and sausages were good we both thought. There is also a breakfast box to go which is a contential style breakfast that cost £4.95.

I was really impressed with the customer service here, Craig was very cheerful and eager to please, and every one of the staff members I encountered had a smile. The hotel is extremely well situated in the centre of Birmingham and a short walk to most attractions and although it is not a luxury hotel, you do get a hotel stay in a city centre for a great price. Typical prices are £45 a room but you can get some bargains in the Travelodge sale so always sign up for their newsletters to be the first to find out. Wi-fi was good and although not included in the room was only £3 for 24 hours for two devices.

The public areas downstairs were cool in temperature but the bedroom was warm and this is something to think about if you are visiting in the summer. The fan does help a little.

Would I stay again? Yes I would if I was on a tight budget and wanted to stay in the centre of Birmingham. The beds are great, the rooms are clean and modern and the staff are super helpful.

The recent refurbishment programme nationwide has really improved a vast majority of the hotels and has brought the chain into the 21st century.  Travelodge is now the number 1 choice of the crafty budget traveller in the UK.

Dermatology and Non Surgical Skin Treatments

I am getting older, there I said it. I am no longer in my 20's or 30's and as I creep up to my 45th year, the first grey hairs have appeared, and I have noticed some pigmentation on my face and fine lines. Overall I am lucky and I don't think I look my age but there is also no getting away from the fact that I am ageing.

I am all for freedom of choice for women to choose if they would have any treatments done. I want to grow old gracefully but although I wouldn't say yes to surgical procedures to maintain my youth if the situation arose I would consider non surgical procedures to deal with skin problems. I think they can be a lifeline to some people and really boost confidence.

The sort of non surgical procedures I am talking about include such treatments such as laser hair removal, rosacea and acne treatment, removal of varicose and thread veins, mole and skin tag removal.

It's important to get a mole that you're worried about checked out. Sometimes it can be difficult to get an apointment at a surgery so a private dermatology clinic can do that for you and remove it as well.

As I said I have some pigmentation on my face and redness due to rosacea. It is noticeable without makeup and I can understand how it can be very embarrassing to some people. I also have small thread veins on my face which are easy to cover up at the moment.

As you age, your skin thins and thread veins appear more visible. Studies show that thread veins can appear more ageing than lines and wrinkles. If they get any worse I would seriously think about having them treated in a skin clinic. Treatment is often by laser therapy which uses brief pulses of laser light to break down unwanted veins. Treatment is 4 to 5 sessions and facial thread veins can be completely cleared. Common side effects are swelling or slight bruising but this is temporary and soon fades apparently.

Lasers are also great for hair removal. Today's lasers provide a permanent and relatively pain free alternative to shaving or using depilatory cream. Light beams are focused at the base of the hair follicle which in turn halts hair growth. I have dark hair and I deal with hair on my legs with shaving. If I had a problem with facial hair I would certainly consider laser hair removal. It must be
incredibly embarrassing for women if they have a problem with excess hair especially facial hair.

One such clinic that uses lasers for hair removal is SK:N. Founded in 1990 they have 25 years of experience in the field and are proud of the fact that their medical staff are highly trained, there is a medical director in every clinic and many of the clinics also treat people on the NHS for skin conditions. All SK:N's laser technicians have the longest training in the industry and operate according to the Medical Standard's Team approved medical protocols. SK:N is governed by the Care Quality Commission and like to think of themselves as an ethical business. They are also ranked in the Top 100 Healthcare Providers to work for in UK. With 37 clinics around the UK there should be one near you.

SK:N

I haven't been to SK:N so can't recommend it personally but these credentials do inspire confidence in me. They say they will never offer a treatment you don't need and will continue with your aftercare until they are sure you will have the best possible results. That is very reassuring. Obviously if you are going ahead with any non surgical procedures do your own research and also see if the clinic you are going to are open about past client reviews and recommendations.

I think there is definitely a need for clinics to provide non surgical procedures. It can really make a difference to someones life.

Win A Personalised Necklace From Belle Fever Ends 25/08/15

I think it's alway nice to give something personal to the ones you love. I know I love receiving personal items too. The fashion for personalised jewellery is something which I have followed since owning my own jewellers years ago. Charm bracelets and engraved jewellery were popular then, as it is now.

One company that approached me recently to review an item from their website was Belle Fever. Belle Fever specialise in personalised jewellery for that someone special.

Some of the personalised designs from Belle Fever

Belle Fever is run by the owner and founder of the company, Sarah. Recently I interviewed her to find out more about the company.

Hi Sarah. Belle Fever is a new company to me, can you tell me when did you start your business?- I started this business on Valentines Day 2012.

What is unique about your jewellery?  Each piece is handcrafted and inscribed with the choice of names, quotes or dates. Each piece is made especially for you. No two pieces will ever be the same. That is our unique selling point.

Do you have a favourite piece of jewellery you own? I always wear my gold name necklace which I never take off and my infinity anklet.

What are your plans for the future? We are expanding in the US and UK and hope to offer other women the chance to build their own Belle Fever business through a customised program that will show them our blueprint to success. We also plan to add more designs to our collection.

Sarah says on her website that her dream was simple:-

  • To allow everyone to capture those Moments in Life;
  • To create unique designs that make us as unique as our personalities;
  • To be able to keep love ones close always;
  • To make it affordable for everyone;
  • To start a family heirloom that can be passed on to generations; and
  • Quite simply to solve all your gifting ideas with something different yet affordable for everyone.
I was lucky to be able to receive an item of jewellery from Belle Fever to review. I wanted a piece of jewellery that my mum would love. She loves the rich colour of rose gold so I picked this beautiful piece below.

My personalised necklace - shadow on the left is from the light

I honestly couldn't fault the quality of the My Family Tree pendant I ordered, it came within 2 weeks from Austrailia which I thought was very quick. It felt well made and looked very pretty in a rich rose gold tone. It isn't gold but for this price you don't expect it as it is currently selling for £39. The engraving was perfect and the little hearts betwen the names were very cute.  What is also great is that the snake chain comes in two lengths and both have an extender. The 45cm chain extends to 50cm and the 60cm chain extends to 65cm. This is very useful if you want to adjust a chain depending on th neckline of what you are wearing.

The My Family Tree necklace also comes in monel silver which is non allergic and monel yellow gold. Monel is a type of plating that is non allergic and anti tarnish, so you don't have to worry that your silver will start going black with tarnish or your gold will get brown marks.

It makes a great gift for a grandma and mum especially. I gave this necklace to my mum and she started crying... with happiness :) If you are reading this, sorry to embarrass you mum!

Today on my blog I am giving you a chance to win a Tree Of Life necklace in you choice of silver, yellow gold or rose gold monel. You can enter daily so why don't you bookmark this page if you would really love to win.

Whilst you are here I also have this competition running to win an oriental rug with Funky Rugs.

Good luck all!
