VonShef Soup Maker Review And Competition Ends 28/02

Who doesn't love a bowl of steaming tasty soup in Winter? It's nutritious, filling, generally low calorie and warming. So I immediately said yes when VonShef offered me the chance to review their soup maker and give one away to my readers.

The VonShef soup maker will automatically cook and blend your vegetables and cooked meat into soup, at a touch of a button in just 25 minutes.

When it arrives you need to wash the inside of the soup maker with a little washing up liquid and hot water, then rinse thoroughly with cold water. You also need to wipe down the underside of the lid, and the mixing blade carefully as the blade is sharp. Important! Do not allow the power lead to come into connection with any water.

Then the instructions for most soups are very similar. First, you chop up your vegetables and cooked meat (if you are using) and then you add your stock. The stock needs to be at room temperature so prepare it beforehand and let it cool.

The volume of the liquid and vegetables needs to be between 1300 and 1600 MLS.  This measurement is on the side of the soupmaker so it's easy to see. Then you plug it in and press the correct button for the consistency you want. There is a SMOOTH button a CHUNKY button and a BLEND button. The BLEND button allows you to make juices, smoothies, purees and dips. It does not heat in this function. For soup, you either press SMOOTH or CHUNKY. The soupmaker then cooks the ingredients and if you press SMOOTH, blends it to a smooth consistency too. If you overfill the soup maker it makes a beeping noise and it will stop cooking, so it has this safety element built in.

So I was excited to try it. Here is a recipe I found online for a tomato and vegetable soup adapted from Nanas Magic soup from the Tesco website.

Mel's Magic Soup

Ingredients

500 ml vegetable stock at room temperature
2 cloves of garlic crushed (optional)

1 chopped red onion (optional)
1 medium sweet potato, peeled and roughly chopped
2 carrots, roughly chopped
2 red peppers roughly chopped
400g tin chopped tomatoes
200ml light or regular coconut milk
ground pepper to taste

1. Add the garlic and onion (if using), sweet potato, carrots, peppers and a tin of chopped tomatoes including juice to the soup maker.

2. Add the stock ensuring it is at room temperature.

3.  Check that the liquid and vegetables are between 1300 and 1600ml. If it needs more stock add more to the lowest level.
4. Press the SMOOTH button and leave it to cook for the cycle (25 minutes). Once the cycle is done the soup maker will stop and the light will come on.

5. Add 200ml of coconut milk, milk or creme fraiche to the soup.
6. Add ground pepper to taste.
7. Serve and enjoy with crusty bread.

This was the first time I made this soup and I thought it tasted great and felt very healthy too. If you wanted to replace the coconut milk you could use normal milk or creme fraiche. To add some extra flavour and some oomph, I would add a couple of chopped chilli peppers without seeds to the recipe next time.

My thoughts on the soup maker

I found the soup maker easy to use and relatively straightforward to clean but you have to be sure not to get the power section wet. It did not have any recipes with it when it arrived and it would have been great to have a few for novice cooks. If you make 1600ML of soup it would be enough for 4 to 6 people.

I look forward to trying out the BLEND button to make delicious smoothies or even cocktails next. The motor is quite powerful as you can even crush ice in it. The Von Shef soupmaker is £59.99 RRP but at the moment you can buy it from Amazon for £42.99.

If you want delicious soup and want to see exactly what goes into each bowl then I can highly recommend the VonShef soup maker.

Today I am giving my readers the chance to win this VonShef soup maker worth £59.99.  While you are here don't forget to check out the other competitions I have running too. Good luck!
