Meet The Bloggers - Amy From The Cherished

Today in my Meet The Bloggers series I am talking to Amy from The Cherished blog.

Can you tell my readers about yourself and your blog.

I'm a 30 something city girl hailing from Cardiff but currently exiled in the quiet English countryside with my partner, our three girls and two dogs! I love big cities, especially Paris, so this has been quite a challenge for me.

I'm a historian but currently working as an athletics coach since I lost my memory in a car accident last year and manage the 'Cherished' brand. My partner works in motorsport so we have a varied life that is never dull but love to switch off walking our dogs in the beautiful countryside that surrounds us or back home in South Wales.

I've recently re-branded my blog to The Cherished as it has evolved somewhat since I started. It is lifestyle based and encompasses all the things I love; from fashion to museum exhibitions, health and fitness, to family days out.

What inspired you to start blogging?

I've always loved writing and things have always made more sense to me when I write them down. I had never really had a creative outlet though; I went to university in 2008 once my daughter was in school and as much as I love writing academically, after three years full time I wanted to write about other interests.

I wasn't really aware of the UK blogging community but I found some great US blogs that I still follow today and thought this is what I want to do. I didn't really think that anyone would read my blog, I was writing for myself really but I've made some great friends through it aswell as expanding my writing portfolio.

Tell me your proudest blogging achievement.
Surprisingly this has nothing to do with follower numbers or collaborations that I have done. I've shared some pretty difficult times on my blog, from battling an eating disorder in my teens and twenties to developing fibromyalgia and the adjustments that I've had to make to my life. It's great when a brand asks to work with you but when someone contacts you to ask advice or to tell you that you've helped or inspired them in some small way, it puts the doubts of whether I've over-shared to rest.

What brands have you enjoyed working with?

I really enjoyed working with Batiste last year, around the launch of the Ella Henderson dry shampoo! I go through a ton of it so was happy to get involved. It was a fun campaign and the interaction on my social media was unbelievable. My girls (aged 8-13) love Ella Henderson and I was 'cool' for a while after Ella tweeted me about my post! They still talk about it now!

What brands would you like to work with in the future?

Mulberry are based in the next village to us in Somerset and every time I drive past I think it would be a dream to work with them one day! Other than that I'm keen to work with fitness brands and those who inspire women and children to achieve their dreams.

Do you have any tips for new bloggers?

Just enjoy it. A blog takes a lot of work and if you're not passionate about it, it is very easy to get down hearted. In the beginning it may not feel like many people are reading your posts but stick with it and visitors will arrive! Also stay true to your own voice, it is tempting to make your blog similar to others but being you will stand out much more! Get involved with social media and don't be afraid to contact other bloggers - we are a friendly bunch!

What is your favourite blog post of 2015 and why?

This is a difficult one! I've just had to read back over my 2015 posts as there wasn't one that stood out. Last year was full of ups and downs and I was just relieved to get through it! Posts about the girls and my niece and nephews are high up there, I can't remember a year when I've been so proud of them all; the way they dealt with my nieces fight through stage 4 cancer or our move to Somerset.

I've ultimately decided on the Guide to Wells post I wrote. Last year was spent settling and finding my way around my new local area and discovering little gems that are hidden around the place. I may have to re-write it now however, as I have discovered so many more!

Do you have any specific blog and personal goals for 2016?

I've decided to really take my blog forward this year and to run certain themes throughout the year. You'll find a monthly round up of exhibitions around the UK, a more in depth health and wellness section and I'm currently working on a series about inspiring women. I'd love my blog to be a source of inspiration for someone out there!

Love Amy xx
