Win A Boots Gift Voucher With A Beauty Spring Clean - Ends 08/05

Spring is upon us at last, the daffodils and tulips have flowered, the sun is out and life is looking a little brighter.

It's at this time I start making positive plans for the rest of the year. One plan I have is to start taking better care of myself. Whether this is by drinking more water, continuing with my membership of the gym or by taking better care of my skin.

Skin care is so important, especially as you get older. To take care of my skin I use a foundation with a S.P.F. to prevent sun damage, as well as help preventing skin cancer. It's a well known fact that nothing ages like the sun. This is vitally important all year round, yes, even in the British Winter when you feel it's rained all the time. It's those pesky U.V. rays you want to block out.

Some Of My Favourite Beauty Products

Other things I feel it is important to do is have a really good spring clean of your beauty products. I shudder to think how long some of us have makeup products in our beauty bags or boxes. Did you know that you should throw out mascara and liquid liner three months after opening and you should never pump the wand in the mascara tube as this will just get more air and bacteria in? Products like face powder and powder blushers generally keep much longer though, up to two years.  I am still using some of these beauty products from last year, so I had better check those items for dates!

If in doubt, most products have a small symbol on the back of the pack called Period After Opening or P.A.O. symbol. This will have a number, standing for the number of months you can keep a product and a symbol m next to it, so don't forget to check this when you buy a new product and frequently throughout the year.  You could always mark the opening date with a marker pen on the back.

How often do you clean your makeup brushes? Beauty bloggers Pixiwoo recommend twice a week for most brushes, with eyeliner after every use, to get a clean line and prevent infections. They recommend using a good quality brush cleanser, but I must admit a mild soap is what I use and it's considerably cheaper.

With the warmer weather, it's a golden opportunity to let your skin breathe and try some lighter products like BB and CC creams. With a lighter coverage than foundation these creams can give you a glow whilst covering minor flaws and imperfections. My favourite product recently is La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur, which lasts well throughout the day.

Today, myself and my friend Linda Hobbis from the lifestyle blog Mother Distracted are giving away a Boots voucher to our readers to treat yourself and buy some new beauty products. You will probably need to if you have had a spring clean of your beauty products! To enter follow the steps on the Rafflecopter app below.
