La Roche-Posay Effaclar BB Blur Review

La Roche-Posay is one of those makeup and skin care brands that those who love beauty will know well. Recently they have brought a new BB cream mousse to the market called Effaclar BB Blur, but before I talk about this let's look at what BB creams are.

BB creams have come to the beauty market in the the last 5 years after the trend for them in Asia and Korea. They were actually developed in Germany by a dermatologist. He wanted a product that would protect the skin and provide coverage after laser treatment.

The BB in BB cream stands for blemish balm or blemish base, but BB creams aren't spot creams, more of a cream that performs many functions, including caring for your skin, and covering minor imperfections. I personally like to think of BB creams as a performing the function of a lighter form of foundation.

Now as I am in my 40's I have the added problem of fine lines as well as spots - yes they haven't gone away as I get older. I also have some pigmentation on my cheeks and uneven skin tone. It's a fine line between finding a product that can cover and even my skin without making me looked caked in makeup. When I want a lighter base I have been using BB creams, especially in the Summer, but many of these BB creams can make my skin look shiny and not stay in place during the day.

Did you know that approximately a third of women in the UK complain about oily shiny skin and a shiny t-zone? That's a lot of women, women who have the same problem as me. La Roche-Posay, decided to do something about this and created Effaclar BB Blur to deal with this problem.

What I loved about this product is that it has a mousse like appearance and on initially application it feels silky smooth and very light on the skin, almost like velvet.

The blur effect gives a soft focus look to the skin, which is fantastic for fine wrinkles, large pores and blemishes. You can't really see this on the photo above, but I'm shy on putting my face in close up on here! Coverage is very good for a BB cream too, the redness on my skin was covered but the best part for me was that it has a shine free mattifying appearance.

A couple of little points - as it is formulated for sensitive skin, it has no discernible fragrance. Also as it is a matt coverage you may want to add a cream blush and a highlighter on your cheekbones to give a natural looking shimmer as sometimes a matt appearance can make your complexion look flat.

I feel this product would be excellent to take on holiday, somewhere warm. The light but effective coverage, mattifying appearance and an SPF of 20 makes it a must have for any ladies' travel make up bag. I also wore it to the gym and it didn't slide down my face, just gave me a natural look.

Available from www.escentual.com and larger Boots and pharmacies nationwide from April 2016, this is one beauty product that has a new place in my travel bag.

Tell me, have you tried La Roche-Posay products? What do you think of this new product?

  10. How do you write a thousand word review of a BB cream and not mention the shade you used?
