How To Add Personality To Your Home: Personal Candle Making

Candles come in a huge range of shapes and sizes and are often used to mark special occasions such as birthday parties and romantic first dates etc. According to the National Candle Association, candles are most frequently burned in the living room (42%), followed by the kitchen (18%) and the bedroom (13%). They also stated that 7 out of 10 households use candles on a regular basis, which shows just how popular they have become in recent years.

A candle provides a source of added comfort and when your home features even just one candle, it can instantly present a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making the space seem more homely and inviting than usual. You can add even more personality and originality into your home décor by creating your own personalised candles.

Homemade Candle Ideas

Whether you want to create liturgical candles, novelty candles, birthday candles, pillars, tapers or even jar candles, it can all be done from the convenience of your own home. You can have them fragranced if you like so that when they burn, the adjoined scent is carried through the room, providing a great source of freshness that can last for hours.

Candle making kits from Homecrafts are ideal for creating, moulding and designing original candles for all ages. Deciding which kit to get can be slightly confusing if you don’t know what you are looking for. Here are a few of the options available to help you to better decide which type of candle you wish to create and by what means:

Tea-Cup Candles: Your home décor will appear more retro thanks to these tea cup styled candles. Paraffin wax is used with these and they are incredibly simple to make. The best part is that they are easy to display as the cup sits on a perfect little saucer, ideal for the kitchen or living room.

Mouldable Wax: This option is ideal for kids because they can squish and mould the wax into any shape that they like to make their unique candle creations.

Beeswax Candles: The wick of the candle is placed along the edge of the sheet and all you have to do is firmly roll it in place. You can create extra decorative candles by combining yours with some mesh or wire to really enhance visual aesthetics.

Bright Side of Candle Making

Making your own candles is not just great for your home décor, they actually act as a great way to de-stress and calm your worries. According to www.doityourself.com craft activities such as candle making can be therapeutic and can help to ‘wash away your tension and stress’ because ‘inhaling the soothing fragrances will help to calm your mind and lift your spirits’.

They are also great money savers. You can give them out as gifts to friends and family or, if you find that you have a great knack for the craft, you could branch out even further and start your own candle-making business. Getting the kids involved is also advised because the activity will help to develop their imagination, creativity and increase productivity.

    1. I would think you can add fragrance to most candles if they are not fragranced already.

  6. I'd love to give candle making a go as I go through so many each week however the cost has always put me off, buying a kit sounds like a great idea and much more cost effective if you don't like the craft.

  7. I love the teacup candles, they look like something even I could make! I've tried making candles before and my best success has been with making them in jars, I'm not so good with moulds.

  8. My kids love making candles! They've had various little kits as presents and they go down a storm! The teacup candles are particularly cute, I have a friend who makes them out of old candles that are partially used, how thrifty!
